The Trail

The Dolmen Trail is a wonderful 11km route that joins the peak of Karakate with the Iturriberri area. As it travels through the lands of Elgoibar, Soraluze, and Bergara, it passes 19 dolmens, with magnificent views of both sea and mountain. Come walk through prehistory!

What is the Dolmen Trail?

The Dolmen Trail (PR-Gi 94) measures a total of 20 kilometres. Of those, 11 correspond to the mountain range between Karakate and Iturriberri, a path of moderate difficulty, suitable for the whole family. The remaining 9 kilometres correspond to the trails that depart from the three towns up to the mountain range.

What can be found there?

Plenty of prehistoric monuments can be found along the mountain range: dolmens, tumulus, and a standing stone from the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. Once, the Dolmen Trail constituted a place of passage between the valleys of the rivers Deba and Urola, where plenty of traces can be found today. The entire trail crosses landscapes of great beauty and value.
