The Mills of Plazaola(Lastur)

The Mills of Plazaola(Lastur)

Plazaola Errotak, Lastur

The idyllic valley of Lastur is highly valued for its scenery, ethnography and history. At the head of the valley stands the hamlet of San Nicolás de Lastur, with a chapel, a small square, the mills and a bar.

Located opposite the square, the mills of Plazaola constitute a valuable relic of our past, as they were ironworks of some importance before being transformed into mills.

In the year 1335 King Alfonso XI, in response to requests from the ironworks in the valley of Lastur and neighbouring valleys, issued a decree granting, among other privileges, the right to cut down trees in the surrounding hills and to produce charcoal to be used in the ironworks.

Agroturismo en Lastur

The mills, which are in perfect working order, are open to the public. During the visit, the mills are set in motion to demonstrate how grain was milled over the centuries. Flour can be bought on location.
