My name is Arruan, which means "at the bottom of the valley among stones". The place where I was built may have been, since the 16th century, the site of a foundry known as Arrubia. I am surrounded by mountains, near the sea (9 km.), in a very quiet location that is the geographical centre of the Basque Country, (approximately 55 km. from Donostia ? San Sebastian, Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz).

The family that live here (Guillermo, Kontxi, Eguzkiñe and Ihintza) make a living from the earth, taking great care of the environment. Their produce is all organic, they recycle most of the waste and set aside anything that can be re-used. They get energy from the sun and the wind, and the milk from their cows is turned into delicious cheese, yogurt, butter and other dairy products that are available to anyone who comes here.

Guests are accommodated in a small house that can take 6 people (three bedrooms + kitchen + bathroom) and in a kind of mountain refuge that holds 12 ( 2 bedrooms + kitchen + bathrooms). Each building is rented out as a whole, and the keys are collected from the farmhouse itself. Any guests who have some kind of disability should contact us before making a booking.

For those who enjoy hillwalking there are gentle paths that lead to the sea. We will be happy to advise visitors about places of scenic interest, buildings, museums... and restaurants nearby where you can enjoy a good meal.

Pets are not made to feel very welcome here by their fellow kind, especially if they happen to be dogs, as Txiki, Lai and Txilai (Basque sheepdogs) are not keen on having any kind of competition around. However, they are only too happy to have visitors, as it is a chance to be spoilt a little.
